Not everyone knows the definitions of jargon. Below are some of these terms explained:
Apron:
An apron is a wooden panel that connects the surface and legs of a table or chair. It is placed at right angles to the underside of a tabletop or seat of a chair, and extends between the top of the legs.
Castors n:
Castors are small wheels designed to make furniture easily moveable or even mobile
Kiln n:
A Kiln is a chamber used to lower the moisture content of a piece of timber
Straight Edge Cut
A clean cut with 90 degree corners.
Natural Edge Cut:
The cut is determined by the log itself. This results in a more natural feel for the piece.
Stompie:
An Afrikaans slang term for “short” or “stump”
Staves:
Thin, narrow, shaped pieces of wood that form the sides of a wine barrel.
Tapered:
To make gradually smaller towards one end.
