Furniture Designer, Ilovani, Featured in South African Hand Made Collection at Decorex 2010.
Contemporary, indigenous wood furniture is the essence behind Ilovani’s creations. Based outside of Plettenberg Bay, South Africa, Ilovani draws inspiration from its setting within the magnificent forests of the Garden Route. Their unique, hand-crafted furniture and accessories have earned Ilovani a place amongst South Africa’s featured designers at the 2010 Decorex show in Johannesburg.
Having displayed their range at Decorex twice before, 2010 holds something extra special for Ilovani. They have been invited to showcase a range of their products in the South African Handmade Collection, an initiative is driven by South Africa’s Department of Trade and Industry.
The idea behind the Handmade Collection is to highlight the creativity and individuality of unique, hand-made furniture and accessories, and to encourage designers to continue creating high-quality, environmentally-friendly designs. Ilovani strongly emphasises each of these principles in every one of their individually crafted items: a stark contrast to the generic, mass-produced items that currently tend to dominate shelves.
It is no wonder that Ilovani earned a spot in this sought-after homeware collection
Ilovani is passionate about creating “Green” furniture and accessories, contributing to the preservation of their beautiful environment. By using every part of the log (including cutoffs), as well as creating innovative accessories from alien invader species and discarded wine barrels, Ilovani maximises the potential of each piece of wood, with negligible amounts of waste.
Each item of furniture is created with the designer and craftsmen paying special attention to the character of the log: no two pieces are ever identical. The passion and energy that Ilovani infuses into their furniture range is highly evident. The South African Handmade collection is a fitting forum in which Ilovani can showcase their creations.
Ilovani will be displaying a range of items at the Decorex show in Johannesburg. Accessories include butchers blocks, Myrtle salt-and-pepper cellars, heart chopping boards and reclaimed French Oak wine barrel boards. Ilovani’s latest table leg design, the Wishbone, will be on display for the first time, as well as an incredible recycled glass and wood chandelier.
The Johannesburg Decorex runs for 5 – 9 August 2010 at Gallagher Convention Centre. Trading hours are 10h00 – 18h00. Credit card facilities are available.
